  • It is understood  that changes with aging is a natural part of growing older.
  • However it is important to be aware of changes require additional
  • attention and care from a professional.
  • Normal aging consists of possible slight changes in the senses and bodily functions.
  • Any changes that lessen daily functioning are a cause for concern and you should call a doctor immediately.
  • Dementia

The slow decline in mental functioning due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging.

Affected areas are memory,language,attention,problem-solving and orientation(not knowing where they are,who they are,or the day or the week.

  • Alzheimer’s

Type of dementia that involves slow decline in mental functioning in the brain as well as slow decline in daily activities or behavioural changes.

Changes will occur in memory, language, movements, orientation, and decision-making.

  • Depression

It is important to note that depression is not a normal part of aging processs and should not be endured with out the help of  a professional.
Signs and symptoms of depression in the elderly population :
Constant sadness(every day,lasting all or nearly all day, for 2 weeks or more).
            Feelings of worthlessness or helplessness.
            Feeling slowed down
            Excessive worries about health and financial problems.
            Often tearful.
            Changes in weight.
Pacing and fidgeting.
            Difficulty sleeping
            Difficulty concentrating
            Physical problems( for e.g: Pain or bodily concerns)
            Recurring thoughts of suicide or death
